Tony Samra relies on his 2021 Ford F-150 Lariat for almost every aspect of his daily life. As the co-principal of a boutique project management company in Toronto, he certainly uses it for work. His firm, Ripple Projects, does commercial and residential high-end builds all over Ontario, and Samra uses his truck for everything from driving clients to building sites to making deliveries. Yet, as busy as his weekdays are, Samra says his F-150 gets a bigger workout on the weekends. He tells us why he loves his Lariat.

“When I have a client in my vehicle, I’d don’t want them to feel like they’re in a dusty old pickup,” said Samra, whose company leased his truck with a SuperCrew cab from Mistry Motors in Mississauga. “The new F-150 is gorgeous. The interior doesn’t feel like a truck, with its wide leather seats and large screens with touchscreen technology. Meanwhile, the outside still operates like a truck.”

The 2021 model has several features Samra describes as miraculous. “The armrest can slide overtop the console between the driver and the passenger seats, and it’s almost like a small table,” he said. “This has been a godsend because it’s big enough to set up a laptop and a clipboard. I’ve been able to open my laptop in front of a (work) site and hammer out a bunch of emails and even take zoom meetings from the truck. It’s such a simple thing, but a real gamechanger.”

Samra also appreciates the power tailgate. “It doubles as a workbench with tie-down cleats for strapping long loads,” he said. “With four outlets, plus one large outlet for heavy-duty appliances, you can plug in all kinds of appliances and even use the tailgate as a table saw.”

Samra’s truck does double duty on the weekends. “I have a young family and my kids are very active,” he said. “We use the truck to drive to Collingwood for ski trips in winter and camping trips in summer. I drive it to soccer practice and back, and to transport my son’s ATV.

How can an engine displacing 2.7 litres deliver a robust 325 horsepower and 400 pound-foot of torque? Engineer it with the Ford port-fuel and direct-injection system with two injectors per cylinder, dual overhead cam design with variable intake/exhaust cam timing, plus twin inter-cooled turbochargers for on-demand power. And the available 2.7L EcoBoost V6 with 10-speed transmission is strong. Its upper block and cylinders are made of the same high-strength compacted graphite iron used in the Super Duty 6.7L Power Stroke Turbo Diesel.

“Also, with all the cameras and sensors, parallel parking the F-150 in the city is a breeze,” Samra said. “My family wouldn’t let me drive anything else!”
