2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Pricing Announced
Power from the Italian-built motor is rated at 260 hp and best-in-class 480 lb-ft of torque.
After a year’s hiatus, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is back, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has just released pricing on their entry into the surprisingly busy diesel half-tonne pickup segment.
The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel starts at $49,395 plus $1,895 freight and PDI. Right now, Ford is asking $48,936 for the 2019 F-150 Lariat diesel (the lowest cost of entry for the configuration) and Chevrolet will be asking $47,730 when their 2020 Silverado 1500 Duramax Diesel goes on sale later this year.
So, while the 2020 EcoDiesel may be the pricier choice, Ram is claiming that the 2020 1500 EcoDiesel’s 5,697 kg tow capacity is the strongest in class, and it will be available across all five trims: Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, Limited, marking the first time we’ve seen a diesel-powered Rebel. Power from the Italian-built motor is rated at 260 hp and best-in-class 480 lb-ft of torque. That marks a 14 per cent torque increase from the last-gen EcoDiesel.
The extra capability is attributed to a new-gen water cooled turbocharger, redesigned intake ports, pistons and fuel injector nozzles, new exhaust system (that also reduces noxious gas emissions), compression ratio increase from 16:1 to 16.5:1, and larger catalytic reduction system.
Speaking of last gen: Ram also announced that you can also have the EcoDiesel in the Ram Classic model, if the truck’s previous styling was more to your liking. You are paying a premium there, however, as the Ram Classic EcoDiesel starts at $51,370 for the Quad Cab 4 x 4, the only way you can get it.
The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will go on sale in fall of this year.
